  • Samsung Chromebook Review

    19 April 2012

Here is a review for the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook. It is a bit different from a normal computer as it has Google Chrome operating system that is a basically a web browser.

Below are some customer reviews from Reevoo and Amazon from people that have expierenced using the computer and operating system.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but lacking a few details, 8 April 2012

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Chromebook! But working regularly on a Macbook Pro, the one thing that really bugs me is the quality of the touchpad. Compared to the macbook it's close to unusable. It works, but thats about it :-P Also it's a bit slow on large sites. The Chrome OS I really love, the hardware lags behind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung Chromebook, 3 Sep 2011

I am using my Samsung Chromebook as an adjunct to my desktop and laptop and it is excellent. I am very pleased with it. Access to the Internet on opening the lid is very swift (2-3 seconds) so the Chromebook is ideal for picking up and putting down throughout the day. The full keyboard makes typing very efficient and the battery life is a day. I thoroughly recommned this as a secondary item for someone who is on the internet regularly throughout the day. In due course, I believe it will be able to replace laptops and probably desktops too. I took it on holiday and it was the choice of everyone in the family when they wanted to browse the internet (facebook, emails, uni, Google etc).

4.0 out of 5 stars Chromebook - first real netbook, 3 Sep 2011

    excellent bit of kit...

Out of the box, it really does boot in 8 seconds and the screen is surprisingly larger and brighter than expected
Keyboard is very good, and my 2 year old hasn't managed to work out how to get the keys off just yet - unlike other laptops

I think this is the first real netbook on the market, small OS just for the web. And it does that very well indeed.
Yes there are small issues - the sound could be better, and watching some HQ video kills it a bit.
Iplayer and youtube works a treat though

I gave the chromebook to my brother for a day or so and he is going to get one, as he is so peeed off with the so-called netbook with Windows on it

The 3G card didnt come with mine, not sure if it was supposed to. Sent amazon an email about it, still no response.

    Good Points

    Excellent battery life
    Fast boot and resume times
    Good quality screen
Very easy to set up and use
Secure - minimal local data storage
Has proved to be very reliable so far
Allows guest access which is great for casual family members

    Bad Points

    No Java or Silverlight support
Lid has a rather plastic feel about it
Drops frames occasionally when streaming video (having said that, a more powerful processor would drain the battery much more quickly)

I just love my Chromebook, as does all my family. So much so I had to buy a second Chromebook. Interestingly everyone stopped using the iPad in favour for a full key board and the 'just turn on and use' Chromebook. With Google Docs and the web everything is covered except Music. Once Google Music hits the UK we will be completely free of Microsoft. Giddy up!

    Bad Points

The mouse pad is not as good as a wireless mouse!

Overall the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook scores highly with 8.5 on Reevoo and 4.5 on Amazon and if you mainly use your computer for web browsing it seems like a good option that works out cheaper than an iPad and other tablet computers. The main issue is the operating system and getting used to doing everything over the internet.

Below are some videos from people who have experienced using the computer and their opinions of the Google Chrome operating system.
